Lethal Bride - (Part 13)

NINJA
He dipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out his phone, swiped it open and went straight into the picture folder. He turned the phone towards her, she saw a picture of a young woman, with a sad oval face, her long and full black hair dropped around her shoulders, she wore an old fashioned long sleeve white dress, her hands placed on her lap, Crystal looked closer and saw that the lady wore a green ring on her left pinky finger, Crystal noticed she wore earrings too of the same colour.
“So that is it? A painting? And that’s all? This painting is obviously ancient” she looked disappointed.
“It’s not a waste time Crystal, this painting cost millions of dollars, it also holds precious stones on both ears and the finger”, her face lit up,
“What kind of stones?”
“Emerald”
“Whoa”, she already loved the idea of stealing the picture.
He told her about the location of the painting and how well protected the house is, he briefed her about the routine of the occupants in the house and gave her a detailed description of the location of the painting in the house; she listened carefully and paid attention to each word he said. Reuben and Francesca were to help her to kill the security guards around the house, while she found a way into the house.
“But with that type of security, there would unseen eyes everywhere”
“Unseen eyes, you mean cameras. They would be taken care of”.
“How?”
“Reuben would hack into the system and do what he knows best, I really don’t know how he does it, but I trust him to do it”. She looked thoughtful “what is it?”
“So I am the front-man or would I say front-lady in all this”
“Errrr, yes. That has always been your skill. When I give instructions you deliver with a kill”. He stood up and placed his hands on his waist “I need to go now; I have some things to attend to”. She nodded and watched him leave. Each time he said he had things to attend to, he was either going to see how much he has derived from the sales of his drugs, or he had a bevy of ladies. She sighed and slammed her laptop shut, dropped the cup in her hand beside her and stretched, she yawned so hard and long. She got to her closet and took off the short see-through dress she was wearing, took out a blue ragged jean and jumped into it, pulled down a white shirt and wore, threw it over her head and pulled it down, then slipped her feet into a white wedge sneaker by Roger Vivier and got her Ray Ban on. She looked simple but chic. She picked up her phone and left the room. She needed a walk; she couldn’t remember the last time she took a walk and breathe in fresh air. As she got out she inhaled. Mystic Connecticut was a small town but she loved it, she loved the air, she loved the environment. She just wanted to clear her head. As she walked she received stares, but that it didn’t make her nervous, she knew she was attractive and she loved the stares. Her steps were graceful. She felt she was followed but shoved it aside, she wasn’t scared of anybody. She kept walking and feeding her eyes and tried to take away every intensive thought from her mind. She decided go to Mystic Aquarium, the last time she went there was with her parents, she was thirteen at that time, she remembered loving the place and savoring the experience. She stooped a cab, told him where she was going and hopped in.
The cab stopped in front of Mystic Aquarium, she looked out and looked at it. Mystic Aquarium wasn’t much to look at from the outside; she knew once she entered through the gates her eyes would meet a large space. She got out and paid him; he thanked her and drove off.
As she got in, she was greeted by a large pool with belugas in it, parents with their kids stood taking pictures, her mind flashed back to her and her parents, she imagined standing there with her parents, taking pictures and laughing. She shook the thought out of her head. She walked further and saw an array of fresh and salt water. She loved the way the kids screamed and showed so much excitement. She walked towards the aquarium that had sea lions, seals, and penguins. She also loved the coral aquarium. She got to see beautiful dart frogs; in some way she thought she was like them, beautiful yet deadly. She still felt she was been followed and watched, she turned to see if there was anybody following her, she took of her glasses and searched. To her amazement her eyes rested on a familiar face. She remembered the face, she remembered him.

Lethal Bride - (Part 12)

NINJA
Crystal listened with rapt attention, but her eyes frequently looked at the little black bag he held in his hand. Mr. Thomas left business and shifted to family. He only had two children, a boy and a girl. Easton was the first and the girl whose name was Scarlet was the second and last. Easton had no liking for academics and so stopped at high school and was taught the ways of business by his father; Scarlet was always a bright student and was keen on going to college. She eventually became a lawyer and with her father’s influence she rose high above her mates. She was a sound lawyer but a dirty one who collected bribes to shut the mouth of Justice. Scarlet got pregnant for a man she had a crush on but refused to marry him even though he was head over heels in love with her. She viewed marriage as a total waste of time, boring and a hindrance to the career she wanted to build for herself. But she was a sweet mother to her little girl. Easton also had that view of marriage, even when his friends tease him about settling down he laughed and shoved it under the rug. At 32 he was not near ready to be with one woman, he thought his sister who he was older than with two years would have a different view but he found out they shared the same ambition but on different fields.
“What about your wife?” she just wanted to know about the mother who bore such children. He walked towards a window and shifted the curtain for light to illuminate the room. “ohhhh, my poor Elizabeth. As soon as Scarlet came out of her she died. She was so beautiful, innocent, sweet and naïve about life. May her soul rest in peace”, He made the sign of the cross. “When she died I focused my energy on making more money and building an empire for myself, I vowed not to remarry and I kept that vow. Elizabeth was the only woman I loved with the whole of my being. I had ladies who threw themselves at me but none could replace Elizabeth. I just had fun with them.” Crystal noticed Ella was still standing by her, “go to my room and wait for me”; Ella nodded obediently and got out of the room. “Ella is an exact copy of Scarlet; she brought her here for the holiday”. Mr. Thomas saw she was already getting tired of his story. “Sorry to bore you Miss Crystal, but here is your reward”, he stretched the black bag towards her and reached out for it and opened it immediately. What met her eyes made her want to work for Easton for a century, she didn’t care, as long as she had breath she would kill for him. She felt them with her fingers. She was rewarded with what she loved, diamonds.
Being a nanny wasn’t such a bad idea. She never knew that she would survive the whole episode. She saw Scarlet for the first time when she came to pick up Ella. Holiday was over. Finally she was in her own room in Easton’s house. She felt totally relieved to be finally home. She sipped hot milk drink as she surfed through the internet with her laptop on her bed. Her thoughts drifted to her parents. Her dad was white and an American and her mom was Nigerian. From two different continents but loved themselves to a fault. When she turned 16 she wished secretly in her heart that one day she would find a man who would love her just the way her father loved her mother. She always loved the closeness and friendship between her parents. As she got older she became scared of having a family that would one day be snatched away from her just the way her parents were taken away from her. She shoved the thought of ever having a family of her own. Her thoughts shifted to Easton, he was a successful business man, but brutal. He had expected her to be addicted to hard drugs by now with the way it went in and out of the house. She always told him that hard drugs might diminish her attractiveness and steal away her youthful glow. She preferred smoking just a cigarette. Her thoughts went back and forth until a knock jolted her.
“Who is it?”
“Easton”.
“Come in”. He got in with his hands shoved into his pocket. He looked unusually attractive, she looked at his thin lips, moved her eyes down to his perfectly spread out chest. He noticed her stare. “Do I look different today?” she smiled “yes”. Deep down she wondered why he didn’t even look at her twice, he was a guy and she was an attractive lady. Sometimes when ladies pay him visit she would get a little jealous, but consoled herself by saying he saw her as his own sister and didn’t want any weird situation between them.
He sat on the bed beside her, “what do you plan on doing with your diamonds”,
“hmmmm”, she put her index finger on her chin, “I think I would change my wardrobe, buy a new ride and give my skin a treatment it deserves”. He smiled “I thought as much. Women and change of wardrobe though”. She loved it when he talked with her; she loved it when he laughed. This was her boss but deep inside she seemed to have an attraction for him. He kept talking without observing that she only laughed because a phrase he said is supposed to be laughed at, she only seemed to listen so he wouldn’t see how her eyes roamed his body. “It’s just a crush”, she told herself.
Finally he held her hand and looked serious, “I need you to do something for me”,
“What is it?”
“I want you to steal a painting for me. It’s not a one man job. Francesca and Reuben would join you. I already have a buyer but I don’t have the painting”.

Lethal Bride - (Part 11)

NANNY

Days passed quickly, she had not gotten instruction from Easton on what to do. The fourth week was nearly over. Ella had developed a strong attachment for her, she centered the whole of each day around her, and she didn’t care about her grandpa anymore, all she wanted was to be with crystal. Francesca and Reuben got better each day with their annoying statements. Crystal avoided them as much as she could. The old man who she finally knew his name to be Mr. Thomas developed closeness with her. He always wanted to have a little chat with her anytime he had the strength. The job Easton had given to her seemed to take forever for it to be executed. At a point she thought Easton wanted to abandon her and pick someone new, maybe he had gotten tired of her and needed someone smarter, more swift and deadly because she was turning soft, but she thought it was dumb to think like that of Easton, he cherished her and loved the way she did her job.
One fine afternoon, she was at the backyard with Ella, building a house with bricks of different colors when her cell phone rang. She glanced at the caller and saw Easton. She picked. “Its time, go upstairs now, to the old man’s room. Something precious is there. When I say precious, I mean precious, now go and keep the phone on your ears, I would still give instructions”. Crystal sprang up without excusing herself, Ella looked concerned she didn’t like the way her nanny left her, she followed.
Immediately Crystal got in, she met Francesca holding a gun, “take it”, Easton ordered from the other end, she wondered how he knew Francesca held a gun, she took the gun from her anyway, it was time to prove herself. She climbed the stairs quickly, with her left hand holding the phone to her ear, and her right hand held the gun. She kicked the door to the room open and saw the old man holding a little black bag under his arm. He looked frightened and unsure of what to do.
“Rebecca help me please, they want to take this away from me”, he looked at her right hand and saw a gun; he looked betrayed “I hired a nanny, not a killer. Do you want to kill me? Please don’t do this, think about Ella, think about the times we spent together” actually before he started talking she was already thinking about Ella and the few times she sat to talk with him. “Shoot him Crystal; he is dangerous and devious, even more than I am” Easton voice on the phone seemed to bring out the hardness in her. She raised her hand and pointed the gun towards him, aimed it at his forehead. He trembled; words seemed to get stuck in his throat, so his eyes pleaded for mercy. She had a thought and brought her hand down “what are we taking away from him” she asked Easton “the bag he’s holding?”, “Must he die for it? Why don’t I take it away from him and walk away, he is old and weak, it’s no big deal” she could hear his anger rising over the phone but she didn’t understand this at all. “Look Crystal if you let him live, you would die within few minutes, he has seen you’re a threat to him, he has seen your face, he would kill you I know him. Stop giving orders, it’s my duty to do it, shoot him”. She tried to raise her hand again but felt a hand stopping it from coming up, she looked down to see Ella holding her hand.
“Please don’t kill my grandpa, Miss Rebecca, please”, her eyes were already teary, Crystal saw how scared she was, even though he barely had time for her, she still loved him.
“Shoot him and lets get this over with”, she heard Reuben’s voice behind her. She looked at Ella “leave this place Ella; you are not supposed to be here”.
“Forget about her and focus”, she heard Francesca voice behind her.
“Do it now”, Reuben’s voice, “there is no time Crystal eliminate him”, Francesca voice, “please don’t kill my uncle”, Ella’s voice. All their voices crowded her head; she pulled her hand away from Ella’s grip, she pointed the gun at him, he closed his eyes ready to be erased, Ella tugged at her elbow to stop, Francesca and Reuben urged her to go ahead. She thought about Easton. She pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. She pulled again, nothing happened. Immediately laughter erupted from everyone around her except Ella, she too looked confused. Crystal pressed the phone to her ear and also heard Easton laugh “so you wanted to kill my father?” she looked confused, she didn’t understand what was going on “your what!!”, “hello Crystal, it’s a pleasure meeting you”, Mr. Thomas grinned. She looked at Reuben, for the first time she saw him really smile. Was this a prank the whole time? She didn’t get it, why did Easton play the prank on her? She thought. She felt a sharp stinging sensation on her arm; she looked down to see Ella pinching with so much effort. “You wanted to kill my grandpa”, she sounded sad. Crystal got down on her knees to ease her hurt, “no honey, it was just a game, can’t you see us all laughing?” Ella bought the lie, but clearly she didn’t like that type of game.
Mr. Thomas tapped Crystal on her back, she turned to look at his pleased face, and she quickly got up in respect to the father of her boss. He smiled.
“Everything you see Easton do, he got it from me, everything he owns, he inherited it though I am not dead. I was a business man, but retired now so he took over. We have a rule in our business anybody that gets in the way would have to die, so we need people to do the dirty job of erasing, and if the person is caught, there is a way we go about it that the person would be released and trust we have connections. In every sector there are always corrupt and greedy people who would do anything to get more money”.

Lethal Bride - (Part 10)

NANNY
Ella ate quickly; she just wanted to leave the presence of the housekeeper and the cook. They frightened her. “I’m done”, she almost whispered. Crystal took her hand and walked out of the kitchen. Ella climbed the stairs slowly, all her excitement had gone. Crystal couldn’t help but notice how her aura had changed completely. Crystal turned the knob and pushed the door open. For the first time she noticed the color of the bed sheet, it was sea blue and had floral patterns on it, she counted the numbers of pillows on the bed, they were four. She pulled Ella in and shut the door.
“Can I sleep with you this night?” Ella asked, she seemed frightened of something.
“Why? Are you scared of something?” Crystal was curious.
“Every night I feel somebody is watching me in the dark, that’s why I turn on the lights in my room every night, can I sleep in your room until I get back?” Crystal placed her hands on her hips. She has never shared a room with anybody, she was an only child, she always had her room to herself, even at Easton’s house she had a large room to herself. Why would she share? She wondered. She paced a little and looked at Ella’s face at the same time. She imagined the little girl lying next to her, imagined her waking up in the middle of the night and saying she had a nightmare then the dreadful one, came to her mind, she imagined telling her bedtime stories. She remembered Easton’s warning of no attachment. Truthfully the little girl reminded her of herself.
“Don’t you want me in your room?” Ella felt unwanted. Crystal’s left hand went up to her forehead, “Ella I want you in my room, but not sleep over the night”, Ella’s eyes became misty “please Miss Rebecca”, Crystal was already loosing her guard, Ella looked adorable and naïve. Meeting Easton removed every form of naivety from her. She sighed and pulled her closed to herself, cupped her face with both palms “you can stay with me”, “really”, Ella’s eyes brightened, “yes”, Ella’s arms went round her tightly “thank you Miss Rebecca”. “You’re welcome”. Ella released her grip on her and ran out of the room. Crystal wondered if she said anything wrong, she sat on the bed and felt the silkiness of the bed sheet, she laid back, inhaled and exhaled trying to relieve herself of the pressure she felt, she looked at the clock that hung on the white painted wall, it was 8:30pm. Her mind wandered until she dozed off. Suddenly the door opened, she sprung up ready to defend herself, Ella looked confused, “it’s me”, when she saw Ella she sat back on the bed. She noticed Ella had changed into purple pajamas, her feet wore fuzzy slippers, she held her huge brown teddy that was almost her height. Crystal could smell her freshness. “You took your bath?”
“Yes I did”, Ella got into bed and pulled the covers over herself, she looked happy and content, “won’t you have your bath also?”, “not yet, it’s too early for me to sleep”, Ella giggled “but I caught you dozing”. Crystal felt a little embarrassed but covered it by joining her to laugh.
“Can I get a bedtime story”, Crystal saw this coming, “no, not today, maybe next time, go to sleep”. Ella’s eyes dimmed “goodnight Miss Rebecca”, “goodnight Ella”. She looked at how peaceful Ella slept. She imagined a lamb sleeping in a circle of Lions. Ella was the lamb, herself, Francesca and Reuben were the lions. She took her eyes off Ella and left the room. She took a tour of the house; she paid attention to everything in the house. She could hear the faint voices of Francesca and Reuben coming from the kitchen. For some reason she thought they fit perfectly to be a couple. Her thoughts went to the old man, she wondered if he had eaten. She walked towards the kitchen and broke into the conversation her stalkers were involved in.
“Has the old man eaten?”
“Yes boss, he has. I see you are doing your job well” Francesca said with so much sarcasm in her voice. Reuben got close to her, he brought his face really close to her, and she could feel his breath. She swallowed. “Hey princess, you are here to take something precious. Do your secondary job, but don’t forget your primary assignment”, she pushed him away and wiped her face, she thought some moisture from his mouth splashed on her face.
“If Easton had people like you, why did he want me to do this job anyway?”
“I would say its just training. Maybe he wants to see how you would perform without attaching emotions to it”, he replied her. Everything about him irritated her. She left got into the room. Somehow she felt peace in this room. She had a peep into the bathroom, she liked what she saw, she smiled and shut the door. She didn’t feel like taking her bath. She just stripped down to only her panties and got under the covers next to Ella. She thought a whole month with Ella and her grandfather, the thought of staying that long with the two termites in the kitchen under the same roof angered her a bit. Some part of her had an obligation to protect Ella from them, the other part wanted to just do her job and leave. She wondered what Easton wanted her to do. She raised the covers up to her neck and switched off the lamp on the drawer by her head side. She closed her eyes and thought about proving herself to Easton before drifting to sleep.

Lethal Bride - (Part 9)

NANNY
He ended the call, but she still kept the phone pressed to her ear and looked at her new room. It looked too royal for a mere nanny. Her hand slowly left her ears as she tried to absorb her new environment. She could hear the faint sounds of the old man’s staff hitting each stair. She felt his presence by the door, she turned towards him, he looked over the rim of his glasses “can you handle this job?” she forced out a smile “my sleeves are pushed up for this. I am ready to get down and dirty”. “Good, good”, he nodded. He excused himself and slowly walked towards his room. She fell flat on the bed, closed her eyes tightly. She really felt like screaming, scream until she wakes up from this nightmare, it didn’t feel real. A tap on her face brought her. She opened her eyes to see the joyful face of the little girl. “Can you give me one reason why you have been smiling? Nothing seems funny, absolutely nothing”. Ella smiled even more broadly “I am smiling because I have a nanny, grandpa sleeps a lot, and he’s always tired. No one to play with, the housekeeper and cook all have unfriendly faces”. Crystal marveled at her fluency in pronouncing words, “how old are you?”, “six”. How the hell was she going to handle a child? She wondered. She never had a thing for children; she only had love for weapons not children. Ella bounced on top of her suddenly, Crystal’s arms crossed in defense involuntarily. “I am hungry Miss Rebecca”. Crystal sighed, ‘this is going to be a long month of torture with this chipmunk’, she thought.
“Show me the kitchen” she said. Ella gleefully got up and tried to pull her up. Crystal smiled and made it seem like it was her effort that made her stand up. As they climbed down the stairs, Ella tried to hop with one leg, with her arms spread out like a wing of a plane as she made funny noises with her mouth. A part of Crystal feared that she might fall and sustain an injury; another part of her didn’t care at all. Ella missed a step but regained her balance again. That shot Crystal back to when she was little, about ten years old; she too did something similar to what Ella was doing. Her mom was behind her as they rushed to make it to church early, she spread out her arms and wanted to fly like a bird, her mom cautioned her not to, but she stubbornly insisted, and hopped making sure she jumped over two steps to the next. She missed her balanced and rolled down to the floor, dislocating her wrist. She cried so much, her mom hurried down the stairs to pick her up, then she noticed her wrist bleeding. She looked at her wrist and still saw the scar. She looked towards Ella and rushed to hold her back “stop it Ella you might dislocate something in your body”, Ella frowned “but I do this all the time”, “no Ella, hold my hand and let’s go down together”. The little girl reluctantly held her hand, unhappy her fun had been stopped.
As they got into the kitchen her eyes met a beautiful and well arranged kitchen. She noticed there were two prominent colors, white and silver wares. She stepped further and saw a lady and a man talking in low tones. She cleared her throat deliberately to get their attention. They turned their heads to see her. The lady was the one who walked up to her first.
“Hello my name is Francesca. I’m the cook. And that’s Reuben the housekeeper” she pointed to the man whose back was rested on the kitchen sink with his arms folded, he looked suspicious, “we have all been waiting for you Rebecca”. Crystal shook hands with her but didn’t want to get familiar with them. “Please I came to get something for Ella to eat”. Francesca quickly got to work. She sliced fresh tomato, shredded cabbage with her hand, rinsed and drained it, then cut onions into five thin circles. She broke two fresh eggs and fried. She took four slices of bread from the fridge and placed everything she did between them, kept them in a flat ceramic white plate and handed it over to Crystal. Ella held on to her nanny, even before Crystal came she had already developed an attachment to her. She just kept mute and watched the conversation between the grown ups. Crystal took the plate and noticed something was missing “is there no liquid to take it with?” Francesca slapped her forehead and rushed to the fridge, opened it and brought out a jug of fresh apple juice. She opened a cabinet and brought out a glass cup. She gestured to the kitchen table; Crystal got the hint and followed her, holding Ella tightly. She dropped the plate on the kitchen table, pulled out a chair and made Ella sit, she looked a little scared, Crystal took the glass of juice from Francesca and placed it in front of Ella, she gently urged her to eat. Ella started eating slowly. Crystal pulled a second chair and sat in front Ella. She watched her the way her own mom watched her eat when she was little. A tap on her shoulder distracted her; she turned to see the stern face of the housekeeper.
“What is it?” she asked trying not to look irritated
“Crystal, we are here to keep an eye on you and not to have any emotional attachment with anyone. So keep your head above the water and don’t sink”. Her heart sank, she felt betrayed and not trusted. How could Easton do this to her? She had never given him any chance to doubt her capability. She looked towards Francesca, “hello Crystal”, her eyes widened. “You too!” just then her cell phone rang, she knew it Easton, she ignored it.
“If I were you, I won’t ignore his call”, she looked his face, she could see a smirk there. She answered the call; his baritone voice irritated her ears.
“Hello Crystal, I am sure you have met your new friends”
“I thought you trusted me”
“I do actually, but there is still a part of you that is soft, I have seen that. The way you look at that little girl tells me all, I hope when drastic measures have to be taken you wont hesitate”, “how did you see the way I looked at her?”, he laughed “I have eyes everywhere in that house”. She sighed feeling let down.
“You know I won’t Easton, I have never let you down, and I am not about to start anytime soon”. He smiled at the other end “I know you have not, but just in case”. He ended the call. She stared at her phone for some seconds before looking towards Ella; her sandwich had reduced to half. “What is it Miss Rebecca?”, “its nothing Ella, try and finish up so we could go back to my room and tell me more about yourself”.

Lethal Bride - (Part 8)

NANNY

She got up paced and sipped, trying to shift her thoughts to other things. A knock on the door jolted her; she silently thanked God for the distraction. She walked to the door and turned the knob, the first thing that met her eyes was a sandwich and a glass of juice. She looked up and met the beaming face of the maid, “good morning ma’am”, she stared at the maid and imagined herself being the one knocking the door with a tray of breakfast in her hands. “Ma’am are you alright”. She blinked her eyes back to reality and took the tray from her “yes I’m fine”. She shut the door gently and slowly ate.
Crystal packed her two bags with her belongings. Wore a beautifully shaped white dress and a gold scarf that dropped from her head to her neck. She carefully wrapped the edges of the scarf around her neck. She slowly slided her feet into a black sandals, picked both bags and got down stairs to meet Easton making a call and laughing. Irritation was written all over her face. She stood with her eyes fixed on him. He noticed her presence and politely ended the call.
“You look too classy to be a housekeeper”, he tried to tease her, but it wasn’t funny to her, she hated the job. Her face still stayed tight. He took the bags from her. There was a cab waiting outside for her. “Seriously a cab! I thought you were going to drop me off. This is not fair and I don’t like this.” Her face already frowned like a pampered child.
“You have to do this, just a month and everything would be fine, it would worth it. You would gain so much from this raid”, “what about the club?”; “you are taking a break”. She let out a long troubled sigh then got into the cab. Easton gave the driver the address, he waved her but she didn’t wave back, she was clearly annoyed.
It was a short trip to the home of her new boss. She stepped out of the cab and waited for the driver to bring out her bags. She took it from him and walked towards the house. The house looked beautiful with white and grey paint. The lawn looked well taken care of. Even with the majestic look of the house, it had little or no protection. She got to the door and hesitated for some minutes, she shifted uneasily and had a thought of turning back and never looking back, but she found her hand going to the door bell. She pressed and she could hear it ring inside. The door opened and in front of her stood a little girl with beaming eyes smiling from ear to ear. “Grandpa my nanny is here”, the word nanny cut through her heart like a sharp blade, everything around came to a stand still, she kept repeating the word nanny in her head several times to be sure she was not dreaming. The little pulled her into the house; her eyes met a beautiful interior. “Grandpa, she’s here”, she looked towards the living room and saw an elderly man sitting with a staff in his hand. Immediately he saw her, he hauled himself up, supporting himself with the staff in his hand. Everything still seemed like a fairytale to her. He brought his hand towards her for a handshake, she took shook him with uncertainty. “You must be Rebecca I presume”. Why he was calling her Rebecca, she wondered. “You don’t seem to be here”, he noticed her distraction. “Oh, I’m here. I am just amazed at the beautiful décor you have in your home”, he smiled “thank you”. The little girl tapped her arm, Crystal looked down to the bright girl, “my name is Cinderella, Ella for short, I came to spend the holiday with my grandpa”. Crystal smiled unable to give the correct response to the little girl, she wasn’t good with children. She looked at the friendly face of the old man.
“I thought I was going to be just a housekeeper. I never thought I would also be a nanny too”. She spoke in her curiosity about the nanny title.
“I have a housekeeper, as well as a cook. Your duty is just to be with her and take care of her and also supervise what is being cooked and the cleaning of the house. Look at me, I am just an old man, my youthful vigor is gone. Look at my leg; I can’t do the whole going up and down seeing to the affairs of this house, my three children are all grown and married, my wife is late, I can be really lonely sometimes. Out of sympathy on rare occasions my children release their children to stay with me during the holidays. This is one of those rare occasions”. She was already getting bored of hearing his plight, she smiled “I understand you perfectly sir”.  He appreciated her understanding and told Ella to show her to her room. She happily complied as she raced up the stairs making Crystal to keep up with her pace.
Immediately she got into the room, her cell phone rang; she punched the answer button without looking at who the caller was. “Hello Rebecca”, her face tightened immediately she recognized his voice “why the hell, did you get me this nanny job and why did you change my name to Rebecca”,
“Just do what you have to do; I would give you instructions on what you have to do”

Lethal Bride - (Part 7)

SHAM

She got up and tried to leave, he held her hand and drew her close to himself, a stinging slap landed across his face, she was upset and irritated. The slap didn’t stop him; he got up and cupped her chin with his hand,
“push me all you want, slap me, or treat me like a dog, I would not let go until you sit down and listen to what I have to tell you”. She pushed his hand off.
“How dare you talk to me in such a manner, how dare you order me, do you know who I am?” She was already pissed. He ignored her hardened face, swept her off her feet and did a 360 with her, she screamed. Then he made her stand on her feet without any support from him, she was way too dizzy to stand on her own, she fell back into his arms, holding him tightly until she got her balance back. She loosened her grip on him and sat down not taking her eyes off him, she marveled at his boldness. She turned round to see most people paying attention to the drama for the first time in a long time she felt embarrassed. She turned to look at him again; there was a smirk on his face.
“Wipe that smirk off your face or I would do it myself”, he still stood with victory written all over his face. She took her glass of wine, gulped it but didn’t swallow; she walked towards him and released the content from her mouth to his face. Immediately people murmured from every angle. He wiped his face with his palm and held her hand “this wouldn’t stop me from saying what I want to say right in front of all these people. I would like us to hang out and have fun, just the two of us. Today was the only day I developed the boldness to come and meet you, do you how many months it took me to talk to you. I am not backing out anytime soon, do what you want, I would always be in you face, until you give in”. She pulled her hand away from his grip, hissed and walked away. Some guys came and tapped him hard on his back “that was some nerve bro, you killed it!” He smiled and sat down to sip his own glass of wine.
She got into her dressing room to see Easton smiling, she ignored him, she knew he must have the drama that transpired between her and the strange guy. “You acted like a child; the Crystal I know is someone strong, you just displayed weakness in front of everyone”. She sat down and simply said “I want to be alone”. He shrugged his shoulders and got up. “Don’t let that little thing cloud your thoughts”, she sat down and faced the mirror. “By the way, I have gotten a job for you”, her face lit up, finally something to keep her alert “what job?”, “a maid”, she got confused “a maid!, are you pulling my legs?, what would I be doing as a maid?, you are joking right, tell me it’s a joke”, she searched his face for answers. He shoved one hand into his pocket and scratched his brow with the other. “What can I say? But to say a mission without a vision is pointless and useless. So when I say I have a job for you there is a reason behind it and there is goal. Actually you would be like a housekeeper”. Her mouth hung open; her eyes bulged out “a housekeeper!” “Yes a housekeeper”, she got up “Easton, I am way more than a housekeeper, don’t turn me into one. He walked some steps closer to her and put his hands on her shoulder, “believe me, its for a short time, I will give you instructions immediately you begin the job, its not a difficult task I promise, calm down and prepare”. She took his hands off and sat down. As far as she was concerned she saw it as a punishment and a demeaning thing to do. She felt numb all over. She imagined herself doing the housekeeping job. This kind of thought had never crossed her mind, not even by error. She looked at Easton again with a solemn face “when would I start?”, “next month. So you have time to prepare yourself for the job. When you get into the house I would let you know what to look for, don’t worry my princess, everything would be fine”. She faced the mirror once more and stared at her reflection. “I will do it”, “now that’s my princess, I believe in you and I trust your acting skills. Let me let you be now”. He patted her back and left her still staring at the mirror.
The next morning seemed to have arrived fast. She wore a pink floral pajamas and fuzzy slippers. Her legs curled on the couch in her room as she sipped hot Chinese tea. She closed her eyes to absorb the tingling feeling she felt all over her body. Her thoughts still strayed to the housekeeping job. She opened her eyes again and sipped the steaming tea, she quickly swallowed to allow the heat linger in her throat. Her head throbbed; she placed her palm on her forehead and sighed. She kept sipping hoping the headache would leave; she was in no mood for tablets.

Lethal Bride - (Part 6)

SHAM

“That was too easy”, she displayed a fake smile, and walked away leaving Easton to stare at the body for a while before telling his men to put the body in the trunk, they drove away and stopped at a bridge. The body was thrown over.
They got back and met meet three police men standing in front of the club. She smiled removed her bad side then released her charm, she walked behind Easton taking each step with poise, calmness hovered around her. Easton walked with an air of great confidence and importance towards them.
“Gentlemen. What brings you here? You can come in and join the fun, isn’t outside a little boring for you?”
“Good evening sir”, one of the policemen greeted as the other two looked on. Easton shoved his hands into his pocket. “My name is Easton Frederick, but please call me Easton”. “And I am Crystal Noel, but you can call me Crystal” she giggled, her facial expression flirted with them. The faces of the policemen all wore a frown and there arms were crossed. Easton turned to her “pretty one, look at their faces, they look scary, you have to leave so that you won’t have nightmares”. She nodded and moved steps closer to the policemen, used her index finger to touch the lips of the one that looked like the boss, walked slowly round him, then blew him a kiss, Easton smiled, she looked at him “I need to take my noble presence out of this choking place, I can’t breathe”, and she walked away and got into the club.
“Now what do you want? Recently I got a visit from two of your kind in my home, now the three of you. Am I a possible suspect or what?” he looked a bit angry. “No sir, we are just doing routine check, we have been inside to check for usual behavior and suspicious movement. After those deaths, we were told to hang around the scene. So you see we are not here for trouble. Just don’t get in the way, if you do, your night would be ruined”. Easton raised his hand in surrender. “Okay Mr. Police, I am going in, away from you to where I can have fun”. He snapped his fingers, his men left where they stood and followed him, each trying to conceal the bulge of their guns in their pockets.
He got in front of the door to her dressing room, pinned his ears to the door but heard no sound, he turned the knob and pushed it gently, he met her yawning, she was tapping her feet in a funny rhythm, her body slouched on the chair, she didn’t look at him. “What did they want this time? With faces as stiff as rocks”, he pulled a chair and sat beside her. “Same old story, the guys that were killed here.” “Oh, can’t they just give it a break, they can’t possibly get that we were the ones who did it”, he smiled with the corner of his lips. “You mean, they can’t possibly get that you were the one who did it”, she glanced at him and tightened her lips, “what do you mean by that, we did it together”, he shook his head “no there was no we, I wasn’t the executioner, I gave the order, which you violated and you had to kill another person”, she sat up properly “what are you saying Easton”, he laughed “you know I’m joking, I didn’t mean it. Of course we are in this together”, she frowned “that didn’t sound like a joke to me, you scared me for a minute”. He cupped her chin with his hand and looked deep into her eyes down to her soul “you have been with me for eight years, have I displayed any behavior that made you not to trust me?”, she shook her head, “I have your back Crystal, would be there for you anytime, I have grown fond of you, I can’t discard you away my angel”, she smiled a little “thank you”, “for?”, “taking me into your home and making me part of it”. He got up, smoothened his shirt, “let me get back to where the fun is, by the way your performance today was beautiful always a touch of uniqueness to what you do”, “thank you”.
She picked up her gun which was lying on the table, she admired it, little but can bring down a strong person with just a bullet, she swirled it around her fingers a little. She loved what she does, always ready for the next opportunity to showcase her strength. She adjusted her make up properly, took one last glance at herself in the mirror before going to relax a bit, she looked tense and she needed to ease that. As she stepped into where everyone was her presence was noticed immediately, she got few waves, most of them gave her approving smiles and watched her every move, as soon as she got to where the bar was, a drink was already waiting for her, a stool was pulled out for her, as she sat her feet left the floor, “thank you”, she said with sincere gratitude and sipped from her glass. As she dropped the glass down, a hand came over hers’, she lifted her eyes and was caught in his gaze for some seconds before shaking herself back to reality. “You have so much boldness to touch me, please take your hands off!” he withdrew his hand “I’m sorry, can I sit by your side”, “yes you can, but don’t talk to me”, he sat down and ordered a drink, she kept sipping from her glass and avoided looking at him. He didn’t bug her for few minutes. He tapped her on her arm again, she sharply to meet his gaze, she looked as if fire would spue out of them at any minute. He ignored it, and went ahead to using sign language to communicate with her, she looked at him puzzled, “what the hell are you doing. Are you drunk”, he laughed “you said I shouldn’t talk to you, and I can’t resist communicating with you”, she frowned; she knew where this was leading, and didn’t want a repeat of what happened to her ex boyfriend. She fell hard for him, but he wasn’t faithful, he kept cheating. One day she picked up a gun and shot him, then made it look like a suicide. Since then she avoided falling in love.
