Lethal Bride - (Part 32)

PROPOSAL

Two waiters quickly came to his aid and took him into the rest room to clean up. She noticed that everyone in the room seemed to be sympathetic towards him. She couldn’t handle the betrayal she felt within, tears dropped from her eyes. Her fingers vibrated so much. A much older woman came to her and touched her shoulders, “its okay honey, its obvious it’s you he loves”.
“I feel so hurt”, Crystal couldn’t contain how she felt, she was visibly shaken and sobbed audibly.
“don’t feel so bad my dear, wipe your eyes and look around”, Crystal looked up without wiping her teary eyes. What she saw confused her. Everyone in the restaurant were all standing and smiling some of them held huge and white plague cards with bold inscriptions written on each of them. She stood up and looked around her. The elderly woman held her hand.
“don’t just stand and stare, read what is written on each card”. Crystal obeyed and read. She started with the one closest to her.
I FELL IN LOVE
WITH YOU, NOT FOR
HOW YOU LOOK, BUT
FOR WHO YOU ARE

LET’S SPEND THE REST
OF OUR LIVES TOGETHER

I WANT TO GROW OLD
WITH YOU

I CAN’T IMAGINE A LIFE
WITHOUT YOU

HAVING YOU BY MY SIDE IS WHAT
COMPLETES ME

BEFORE I FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU
I NEVER KNEW HOW INCOMPLETE
I WAS

I NOW KNOW THAT YOU AND I
ARE TRULY MEANT TO BE
TOGETHER
Crystal turned to the elderly woman, “what does this mean?”, the woman smiled with so much delight. “come, there is more outside”. She followed her outside with so much confusion written all over her face. As soon as they got out, she saw a row of people facing themselves, immediately she saw them they created a path for her to pass through. Each of them carried similar huge plague cards which read “EASTON LOVES CRYSTAL” . She could see him at the end of the row. The elderly woman who was standing beside her vanished. The crowd urged her to walk through. She could hear a familiar music playing out, “Can’t stop this thing we started” by Bryan Adams. By this time she was already overwhelmed. All the anger she felt towards him melted. The crowd kept urging her to walk through. She took the first step, then the next, then she found herself walking through. As she walked, they threw white roses on the ground. She could see Easton beaming as he waited for her. Everything was perfect, the tears that flowed from her eyes as she walked were no longer tears of hurt but of love for him.
Finally the walk that seemed to take forever ended. She stood in front of him. She wanted to say something, but words got stuck in her throat. Easton knelt down on one knee and held a single red rose up to her.

“By the moon I kneel to seek your glory, the red rose I give
to you now creates a new story between us
Seasons are many, their reasons are few
What will remain is my love for you”
She took the rose from him and touched his face, “ I love you so much Easton, get up”
“I won’t, not yet”.
“why?”

He took out the small case from his pocket and opened it to reveal a blue diamond ring by Bvlgari, it was guarded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette cut diamonds along the sides of the ring. She gasped and placed her hand on her mouth, by this time tears flowed freely from her eyes.
“will you do me the favor of becoming my wife, will you make me the happiest man alive”. Her legs became weak. In her younger days she had fantasized about so many kinds of proposals but not something as beautiful and real as this. She was totally swept of her feet. She looked at with so much love and adoration. The crowd started chanting “Say Yes”, phones were up all over taking the most beautiful moment. She stretched forth her left hand, with so much relief he slides the ring on her finger. He got up and sealed her acceptance with a long kiss on her lips. The crowd roared with excitement and applauds. Easton hugged her so tight as if he was scared to loose her, “thank you for accepting, I love you so much”. Crystal felt a consistent tap on her back, she slowly pulled away to see who it was. When she turned to see, she saw the lady who poured the bottle of wine on his head, his supposed girlfriend. She turned to Easton. “explain this”, Easton and the lady laughed, “ Crystal meet Belinda” he said. Belinda hugged Crystal who didn’t return her hug
“congratulations”
“Easton I’m confused”
“I hired her to play her part”
“oh my God”, Crystal said with realization. “What about the elderly woman who brought me outside. Easton pointed to a direction, she saw the woman waving and smiling as she mouthed “congratulations”. Phones were still up videoing, everybody trying to get the last scene.
“now let’s go somewhere we can be alone, away from this crowd”
“okay”. He held her hand and walked to where he parked the car as the crowd waved goodbye to the newly engaged.
They arrived at a garden. He got out of the car and opened the door for her and held her hand as she got out. He led her through a narrow path. The narrow path led to an open space. She saw a picnic mat with four roses on it. He drew her towards the mat and pointed to the roses. “these roses represents four letters”
“and what are they?” she asked
“they are L O V E”. She smiled and placed her head on his chest, he kissed her forehead.
They sat down under the full moon and talked about anything that came to their minds. If Crystal was asked what her most beautiful moment was, she would always refer to this day. With fingers interlocked they talked into the night.

Lethal Bride - (Part 31)

PROPOSAL

His raced as he waited for her to come downstairs. This was not going to be a normal date they usually had, this night was going to be a memory that would last a life time. He touched his pocket and felt the little bulge. He had never asked a girl the question he wanted to ask Crystal, he felt weird. He almost gave up the idea of asking her yet, but he had to.
Crystal unaware of the turmoil Easton was passing through downstairs. Hummed as she dressed in front of her mirror. She loved going out with Easton, it was always fun. She finished dressing, and then she took her small purse and left the room.
As he watched her come downstairs, he swallowed; he could have sworn that she heard his heartbeat. “I adore and love this woman”, he thought. She looked so pretty with her hair down. Every sound of the steps she took registered in his head. He shoved his hands into his pocket to stop his hands from shaking. Watching her come down to him seemed like eternity.
Finally her feet landed on the floor. She walked with a majestic slow poise and planted a kiss on his lips. “I’m ready honey”. Her perfume always had a way of making him more attracted to her. “You smell nice”. He removed his hands from his pocket and cradled her face then kissed her on her forehead.
“where are we going to?”
“you would see”. She noticed how tensed he was and wondered what the problem might be.
“are you alright Easton”
“yes I am”
“you look so tensed and worried”
“I am fine Crystal”
“look Easton I have known you for years now and I know when something is eating you up”. He drew her closer to himself, “well you are wrong this time because I am fine”. He took her hands and kissed both of them. “Let’s have a beautiful evening”. He took her hand and walked to his car. She wasn’t fooled by his smiles and kisses, she knew something was bothering him. “I will ask him again. He thinks I would stop persisting”, she thought secretly.
They got to an exquisite restaurant. Easton had already booked a table for them. She felt an odd kind of silence in the restaurant. They seated and she ordered the menu for the both of them. She watched him closely as they waited for their food to arrive. A waiter brought a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. She sipped from her glass watching his every movement. She noticed how his fingers trembled around his glass, but stopped herself from probing further.
“why are you staring at me like that”
“give me a reason not to stare at you”
“sincerely I am fine”
“I doubt that”, she frowned.
“I am”
“fine. Don’t just let your mood spoil this evening for us. When you are ready to tell me what the problem is, I am always there to listen to you”
“thank you”
“you are not welcome”. Easton laughed.
Their food was brought to them. Easton tried all he could to compose himself, making sure he didn’t ruin his planned evening. He watched her eat slowly and smiled. He just loved the sight of her. They talked on and on, she laughed most of the time. He treasured every ounce of her. She wasn’t perfect but she was the perfect woman for him.
The time drew near for his plan to unfold. A waiter gave him a signal; he stylishly shook his head, telling them to wait a little longer. Ignorantly Crystal kept talking unaware of what was happening around her. Finally the time was right to execute his plan. He nodded to the waiter who constantly kept his eyes fixed on them. He got really uneasy this time but maintained a neutral composure.
A lady walked into the restaurant. She looked really classy and attractive. She seemed to have the gaze of people in the restaurant for while including Crystal. The lady walked towards them. Easton had his back facing the lady, but Crystal watched her. The lady kept her gaze on Crystal as she walked towards them. Crystal instincts knew that this lady was up to no good. The lady kept coming closer; her cologne seemed to fill the air.
“she is heading straight at us, what does she want?”, Crystal thought. The lady got to their table. She was visibly angry and fuming. She glared at Crystal for a while then dozed her vicious gaze on Easton, Crystal throat went dry, she wondered what next would happen.
“Easton, I can’t believe you, you are here with another woman, while I wait for you helplessly to pick me up”. Crystal’s heart slammed against her chest.
“what the hell are you talking about?, Where do you know him from?”, Crystal voice was firm and already shaky. The lady turned to her,
“you see this man here”, she pointed at Easton, “he is my boyfriend, if you think he is in love with you then you are really mistaken and fooled”. Crystal couldn’t believe her eyes and ears. She couldn’t bring herself to believe that Easton had been lying to her the whole time. Her fingers began to tremble. She looked at Easton who already looked like a little child who was caught doing something wrong.
“Easton, tell me everything happening here is a dream and that I would wake up soon. Tell me that everything this lady is saying are all lies”. He seemed to be struggling with words, he looked really confused.
“Easton, I am talking to you”, she raised her voice higher this time. By this time everyone in the restaurant paid attention to the drama. The lady stood watching them. Easton took her hands and looked deep into her eyes. “Forget about this lady, I don’t know her, don’t listen to a word that she is saying”
“oh! Really, is this what was eating you up. When were you planning on telling me?”.
“I don’t know her”
“what do you mean you don’t know me Easton”, the lady was so infuriated. She took the wine bottle on the table and drained it on his head, “we are over”, she said and walked away.

Lethal Bride - (Part 30)

LOVE

Days passed, months passed and their love grew. Their hearts became knitted together. Crystal felt like she was in a Disney world together with her prince charming. Easton felt so blessed to have her by his side. They did things together, went everywhere together and were quick to show the world that they were in love. For all of Easton’s life, he had never felt a love so true and pure. He decided in his heart that he would treat her like his own flesh for the rest of his life.
With all the women he dated he never saw the need to have a family, but with Crystal, his thoughts were fixed on having a family with her. For the first time he felt genuinely at peace and happy within. Every morning when he woke up, the first thing that drops on his mind was Crystal. He would walk to her room; tap at her door which would swing open almost immediately and her beautiful sleepy face shows. He would cradle her face and plant kisses on her lips and forehead before muttering “good morning”.
Life was blissful everything about love was the way she had always imagined it. With every passing day, her love for him grew; she was so attached to him already and couldn’t bear the thought of a life without him. She was content and happy with him. “no other guy would make me feel the way he makes me feel”, she constantly thought. She knew her heart belonged to him and his heart belonged to her too. Soon her thoughts dwelt on carrying his children. Most times she day dreamed of a swollen belly with his child in it. She saw how he cared and loved her, she felt his sincerity, she observed how he paid close attention. She knew she was a lucky woman. The maids and everyone that met them saw the bond between them.
On other hand Easton thought of so many ways to ask her hand in marriage. He wondered her reaction would be. He was scared that she was going to refuse, so that made him change his mind anytime he wanted to ask her. He started becoming nervous around her. She noticed it and got bothered.
“is there anything you want to tell me?”
“nope, why?”
“you are acting weird these few days and its getting me worried”. He smiled a little, “Crystal, I am fine”, he assured her. He spent most of his time searching for the perfect engagement ring to buy for her and for the perfect time and way to ask her to marry him. Deep in his heart he knew he loved her so damn much, she made him happy and content.
Crystal saw his withdrawal as a sign that his love for her might be waxing cold. Somehow she dreaded the moment he was going to totally withdraw. She paid close attention to every gesture he made, every sentence he said, she looked at his body language, just looking for a sign. Something was cooking up in his head, she knew this, she had known Easton for more than eight years and when something troubled him. She tried over and over again to get something out of him, but he kept insisting that he was fine and there was nothing to get worried about. She forced herself to believe him and tried to ignore his new attitude. She didn’t want to loose what they had, what they shared couldn’t be shared with another. Another thing that got her worried was the lack of jobs that came. “Could Easton be getting soft and wants to start on a clean slate”, she wondered. Nothing was normal anymore, but she kept to herself, she knew eventually he would fill her in on what has been happening.
Easton knew she noticed his behavior, “if only she knew how far I would go to please her, if only she knew how much I want her to be my wife”, he thought. He tried to cover up his lapses and make her feel wanted and love, but his attention was taken over the plans to ask her hand in marriage. Starting a family with her would be his greatest fulfillment and he knew deep within that their relationship would be the best ever. He kept searching for the perfect ring, a ring that befitted her. He wanted everything he did for her to be perfect.
Finally he got the ring. It was beautiful and he knew she would be thrilled by the sight of it. But one thing worried him, “was she going to accept his proposal?. He walked around with the ring in his pocket for days, thinking, planning and hoping. He loved this woman so bad and didn’t want to loose her to anything or anyone.
One evening at dinner, Crystal couldn’t help but notice how he ate slowly.
“Now Easton, what is really the matter, you always look like there is something heavy on your mind these days. There is a bridge in our communication. What is it?, you know you can tell me anything”, her eyes were sad. His heart broke to see her that way. He held her hand.
“I’m in love with you Crystal, and you know this”
“but that doesn’t explain how you are so absent minded these days”. She pushed further.
He sighed, “I have just been thinking lately”
“about what?”
“about us”. That got her worried, “what about us? Are you having a rethink?, tell me”. Easton smiled, “nooooooo, common Crystal, why would you think of that?”
“You are not giving me any reason to think otherwise”.
“Crystal, I would never leave you, I promise you this. We belong together. Remember I can do anything just to make you happy. It’s just a phase and soon it will pass”.
“Won’t you let me in? Let me pass through this phase with you. I feel neglected Easton”
“Don’t be my darling, soon everything would be perfect. I promise”. He gave her an assuring kiss on her forehead. She felt defeated but there was nothing she could do at this point but to wait until everything became perfect. She just hoped another woman wasn’t taking him away from her, but she trusted Easton and waited for him to reveal what had been on his mind to tell her.
Looking at the ring everyday tortured him, he needed the ring on her finger, he craved to see her reaction. He wanted to take his time and give her a memorable proposal. “the ring would fit her beautiful slender finger”, he thought and smiled. Soon he started thinking about the number of children they would have together, the kind of schools they will attend, the kind of home and the kind of parents they would be. If there was anyone who made him feel different, it was her; she had shown him a whole new gate way to true love.
Days kept on going and he still waited for the perfect time. He had to ask her soon and his plans on how to carry out his proposal to her would soon be a reality. The day grew closer. He became nervous and excited. He was going to ask the love of his life to marry him. He already told his father about his plan and his response was “are you sure, you want to do this ?”
“one hundred and one percent sure dad. I love her”
“you know we took something away from her that she knows nothing about”
“it will remain that way dad”
“alright. I have no objection to your happiness. You can ask her to marry you”. The approval from his dad lifted his spirits, he knew it was time to put that ring on her finger.

Lethal Bride - (Part 29)

LOVE

“Easton for the love of Christ, stop all this and let’s have a normal new year”. He ignored her and laid on the bed with his shoes on.
“Easton do you realize my bed sheet is white”
“Crystal do you realize my heart wants you”. She stood looking at him, shook her head, then moved to seat on the couch. They stared at each other for a long time before he got up suddenly. “I will keep doing this everyday until you see how serious I am”. He shoved his hand into his pocket and left the room.
Easton kept to his word and kept coming back everyday, saying the same words to her over and over again. He was bent on having her. It didn’t seem like anything was going to change his mind. Everyday she expected him and everyday he came. Soon her thoughts centered around him, but she tried hard not to make him see she was in-love with him.
A month had passed and to her surprise he had not come up with any form of assignment for her. It was unusual and she missed having the thrill of doing everything, she missed the authority. She missed handling a pistol. She felt reluctant going to the club. She spent her time writing songs to take her mind off everything. She wrote on several pieces of paper, squeezed and threw them away, she never settled for anyone. She kept writing as her thoughts hovered around Easton. She sighed, squeezed and threw the last piece of paper away. She spent days avoiding him, but he always found ways to talk to her.
After bathing and eating, her next goal was to sleep. She laid back on her bed and shut her eyes, soon she dozed off, dreaming of a life with Easton.
She woke up slowly with a feel of someone’s lips on her lips. Her eyes opened slowly to see Easton kissing her. For some reason she didn’t push him away, she kissed him back with a passion she didn’t know she had. Her hands went slowly around his head as she pulled him closer. Part of her wanted to stop, the other part wanted everything. He stopped kissing her and looked deep into her eyes, she looked deep into his eyes too. He smiled with the corner of his mouth.
“you kissed me back”
“yea”
“why?”
“I don’t know”
“are you mine now?”. She smiled a little, but didn’t answer.
“I guess that’s a yes”. He kissed her forehead, “can I take my girlfriend out tonight”
“Who?” she asked.
“You of course”
“Hmmmmm, I see, when did that happen?”
“Now. Take your bath, get dressed and let’s have our first outing as a couple”. He carried her over his shoulder. She giggled like a little girl. He opened her bathroom and dropped her, but couldn’t let go of her hand, he looked at her with so much adoration.
“Are you going to watch me bath?” she asked.
“Oh! Shit! Sorry, sorry, I was lost looking at you. You’re beautiful. Let me let you be, I will be downstairs waiting for you”. He left. Crystal took her bath feeling good. She hoped what they’ve started would not end abruptly. She changed into a casual mini dress, slipped her feet into a black flat sole. She got downstairs and saw Easton waiting patiently for her.
He watched her as she took each step. Having her made everything perfect for him. He decided in his heart that he was going to make her the happiest woman on planet earth. He could perceive her perfume and he loved the floral scent.
“so where are we headed?”, she asked
“somewhere”
“where?”
“i will take you there”. He held her hand and led her to his car and off he zoomed to where he wanted to spend time with her.
She had never been to the beach before, she always saw it as a waste of time and unnecessary, but being with Easton it felt different. The sea roared and rolled fiercely, seashells were scattered all over the sand. She watched as kids ran cheerfully around the seashore with the attentive guidance of their parents. Easton asked her to pull off her shoes and feel the sand beneath her feet, she obeyed and he did the same too. He held her hand as they walked together watching people.
Easton drew her attention to children that played around them, “watch these children play, look at how their parents watch them with an eagle’s eye”
“yea, I can see that, why?”
“good, that’s how we would watch our own kids when we come to the beach as a family”
She couldn’t believe what she just heard. Easton of all people is thinking of having a family with her. He noticed her reaction to what he just said.
“don’t worry, I will make sure they have a beautiful life away from crimes”. She smiled and shook her head. “Easton, you are going too fast”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t help it”. He took her hand as they stood watching the waves of the sea, each of them deep in thoughts. A boy and a girl of not more than ten years of age stood in front of them, disrupting their individual thoughts. One of them held a phone in their hand, “please can you take a picture of the both of us”,
“sure”, Crystal was quick to answer. She took the phone from them and started taking several pictures. Easton watched her with so much admiration. She finished taking the pictures and handed the phone back to them. They thanked her and ran off.
“you are going to be a great momma”
“really”
“yea, I know you would be, I can see it”
“thanks”

Lethal Bride - (Part 28)

LOVE
The Christmas vacation that was supposed to be relaxing ended up creating tension between Easton and Crystal. It was New Year’s Eve already and she was going to spend it in her room alone. Since they got back from New York, she avoided Easton like plague. No doubt she had feelings for him also but she was scared it would not work out then that would mar their friendship. She decided she wasn’t going to allow any romantic feeling come in between them. She looked at the clock, it was half an hour to new year, she kept staring at the clock waiting for it to struck twelve so that she could wish herself a happy new year, maybe send a text to Reuben and Francesca and sleep off.
At exactly 11:59, a tap interrupted her deep thinking. She sat up, she knew it had to be Easton, there was no one with them at home, Easton had given them the time off.
“come in”, she said with so much reluctance in her voice. He got in and stood at the door. He seemed nervous. “I just wanted to be the first to wish you a happy new year, it’s about one minute to midnight”. She didn’t know how to respond so she kept quiet. He got closer to the bed, “can I sit down?”, “of course you can”, she tried to conceal every form of uneasiness from her tone. Easton sat down and they both waited for the New Year.
The clock struck Twelve; they simultaneously said “Happy New Year”. He got up to leave but sat down again. She watched him but didn’t utter any word. For about two minutes there was a loud silence between them before he broke it.
“Crystal, I am not leaving here without your heart”. She still didn’t know how to respond so she kept quiet. “Please Crystal, I know it’s unexpected but I have nursed this feeling for a long time”.
“what about all the women you flirted with Easton”
“I just used them to distract myself from what I felt for you”.
“Easton, this wouldn’t work, it’s going to affect us”
“it won’t I promise, just allow me show you how I feel, let’s begin this year with Us”. she got up from the bed and got to the door, turned the door knob and opened the door.
“Easton lets not make things complicated, you have to go now”, he stared at her as a cloud of sadness hovered around him. Easton stood up and got close to her, he gently lifted her hands from the door knob and closed the door.
“I said I am not leaving without your heart, and I mean it”. He was dangerously close to her now, she swallowed and tried to maintain a calm composure. She knew what would happen next, she knew she didn’t have the strength to overcome what was coming. She wanted to move away from him but somehow her feet got stuck to the floor. He took a hold of both of her hands and drew her really close to him.
“Crystal please be with me, you’ve known me for eight years, I’m not a stranger”. Words got stuck in her throat, she couldn’t utter anything. For some reasons she felt butterflies in her stomach. He cupped her chin with his right hand, “Don’t push me away Crystal”, his voice turned into a whisper. She felt his hands tremble a little. There was no inch of distance between them, she could feel his breathe, she could perceive his natural manly scent, by now her guards had given way. He kissed her forehead. “Crystal don’t deny that you don’t feel something for me, I know you do, even if it’s little”. She remained speechless, “if only you know how much i want to kiss you now”, she thought. He brought his face down to her face and lingered there for a while, she shut her eyes hoping her wish for him to kiss her would come true but she was disappointed when he withdrew and let go of her.
“Let me not ruin the New Year for you”, he simply said and left. Immediately he left, she pinned her back on the door and dragged a long sigh. She realized she had been really tensed in his presence. Her thoughts were fixed on him; she knew sooner or later she would give in. What sane girl would have Easton at her door and not let him in? She got back into bed; she knew Easton would be at her door at dawn. She dozed with thoughts of him.
True to her expectation, at dawn he was at her door knocking. She turned and faced the door. She waited a while to see if he would give up and leave, but his knocks became more persistent. She got out of bed and opened the door. Immediately he saw her, he cradled her chin and planted a kiss on her lips. She was dazed, it was unexpected but she liked it.
“Crystal I’m empty, there is a void I feel, you are the only one that can feel it up”
“what happened to the women in your life”
“you are different Crystal, can’t you see how much I want to be with you. God knows how deep I’m in love with you”, he drew her closer, “please start this year with me. You have known me for eight years, there is nothing to be scared of, you know me, allow us to be, please”. His eyes were pleading. She tried pushing him away but he held her firmly.
“Easton please stop”
“I can’t”. She knew he wasn’t going to leave until she accepted him into her life. So many thoughts rushed through her. Deep within her she knew she felt something for him. “he has to work to get me, I’m not giving in easily” she thought. She didn’t want to be like the other women that threw themselves at him at the slightest signal. She wanted to have a long and different stand in his life.
“Easton you need to leave”. He let her go and sat on her bed. “I said I am not leaving here without your heart Crystal”. She ran her fingers through her hair, “why are you so adamant Easton”.
“Crystal, that’s because I want you. Crystal I have messed around with ladies but that because I was running away from my feelings, you saw me like a brother and I didn’t want to ruin that. But this time I will not run away, I’m staying to have what I want. I love you and there is nothing you or I can do to change it”. She saw how sincere he was.
“this is funny Easton”
“what is funny?”
“Us, together, its funny”. She folded her hands and stood right in front of him, “Easton its too early for this drama, you need to leave”
“Crystal have I ever lied to you?”
“nope”
“then believe me when I say I’m in love with you and I am not going anywhere”.
